ANALYSIS
India Rising: Opportunities In Nonwovens And Technical Textiles
Seshadri Ramkumar and Appachi Arunachalam Nonwoven and Advanced Materials Laboratory, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas
This article is contributed jointly by Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar and Shri Appachi Arunachalam. Authors' says that -"India's technical textile industry will be worth 12-15 billion dollars by 2012, which will be 10% of the global value. As recent as January 16th 2008, the Government of India is planning on measures to grow the economy in FY2008 and beyond by boosting the weaker sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture. Apart from the National Mission to promote technical textiles, positive schemes such as Technology Upgradation Fund and reduction in the basic customs duty on imported nonwoven and technical textile machinery to 5% are worthy of mentioning". "Indian Government unlike the Governments of developed and industrialized nations, promotes the growth of the textile sector as it is the bread winner for the middle and lower middle income people who constitute the major chunk of the electorate. Both politics and economy dictate the need for such support schemes and promotion" they add ed. "We predict that the period between 2010 and 2030 will be crucial for the technical textile sector in India and will provide ample opportunities for both international and domestic players with a growth rate of 15% per annum. India is shining and is certainly a technical textile playing field to be in for the next three decades" they concluded.

TEXTILE STOCKSCAN
Under the regular column, experts Dilip and Rushik Bhatt discuss about the Rajasthan Spinning and Weaving Mills Ltd. RSWM was incorporated with objective of manufacturing cotton yarn and cloth, staple and viscose yarn and polyester blended yarn in 1960. The company was collaborated with Zwicky & Co. (Switzerland) for manufacturing of polyester sewing thread. Kharigram unit was equipped by Rieters (Switzerland), Autoconers from Schlaforst (Germany), Two-for-One Twister (S. Korea) and Sulzer weaving looms for polyester blended yarn. RSWM installed singeing machine from Parex (UK), KD Suprema (Italy), Contifit (Germany) and obtained dyeing technology from S. Korea for manufacturing of `Mayur' fabrics. Apart from technical development RSWM also made some important MOUs and joint ventures with domestic and global authorities. If we look at the financial performance of the company, we observed that the top line and bottom line has complete contradictory performance.
The advice from the analysts' reads- As far as stock movement is concern we observed that stock run quite a lot during second quarter of FY 07-08. It has made bottom of Rs. 73.75 and high of Rs. 249 appx. 230% growth in a quarter. One thing was also noticed here that during that healthy run up share holding for general public gone down to 20%, it means at every rise retail investors were getting out but somebody from corporate bodies getting in". "Due to recent fall in Indian financial market stock also corrected a lot and gives almost 50% gain of last quarter. Currently stock trading at Rs. 128, as per our view foggy climate around union budget session and unclear global uncertainty will create higher volatility in market. We maintain sell at every rise and one should wait for value buying at lower level around Rs. 110" they added.
