In his brief overview Prof. Kulkarni talks about the developments concerning Indian Garment Industry. "The Indian Garment Industry" says Prof. Kulkarni - "Particularly as it moves from law cost seasonal cotton items to high value classics and mass items, to be for the world market will need assurance of specified quality of finished fabrics and the manufacturing industry has to gear up wide width, long length, finished roles with closest shade matching, colour fastness, dimensional stability and inbuilt aesthetic qualities." A very brief but interesting account on readymade garment potential where Kulkarni tries to establish that a garment manufacturing industry in small scale sector could be established with a capital investment as low as Rs. 15000 !

Sintex Industries Ltd. Kalol is a diverse industry group with activities in the field of plastics and textiles. Known as Bharat Vijay Mills earlier the company has been re-christened as Sintex Industries. In the textile segment they are a manufacturer of high end structured died yarn fabric for an international market. They are also in the manufacture of corduroy fabrics for domestic and overseas buyers. With M/s. Warburg Pincus Group's Lightwood Investments holding 25% of there equity they also have joint ventures in Italy (CANCLINI) and UK. Sintex is expanding their facility for mans and women garment near Kadi in North Gujarat. Commenting on their growth strategy Patel Says - "We are and will continue to be focused on the high end niche segment in textiles and will hence be more 'boutique' rather than volume driven." He further observes - "With increasing urbanization, organized retailing and ma ss media influence, customers will get more discerning and demanding, Quality will play an increasingly critical role."

Shri Patel engages himself in this exclusive dialogue with Textile Review sharing his insights on shape of things to come as far as global and domestic textile and apparel industry is concerned. The dialogue provides an interesting and absorbing reading.

In an exclusive interview with the Textile Review Aziz Memon Chairman Kings Apparel Industries Karachi who is spending more than $60 million to upgrade his operations, and roll out new products such as organic yarn so that he can break in to new markets (Forbes Asia July 3, 2006) shares his perception regarding post quota scenario in the world market. Specially under scanner are the sanctions imposed on China up to 2008/2009 by US and EU respectively and the opportunities arising out of that for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Sharing his vision Aziz Says - "The post quota scenario has dramatically changed the Global Trade Patterns. With the complete phase out of quotas the Textile and Clothing Sector has been experiencing another global revolution with the opening of the world markets and the increased global trade." A major player himself Aziz shares with amazing accuracy and logic his in sights interpreting the strengths and weaknesses of industries operating from India, Paki stan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and China. The interview provides an interesting reading with a message from Aziz which says - "There is light at the end of every tunnel. We must not get bogged down when things don't seem to be going our way. They should keep working hard at all times in order to accomplish our cherished goals."

The coverage contents the full text of keynote address delivered by Shekhar Agarwal on the occasion of TexTech Ahmedabad 2006 organized by Automation Industry Association (AIA) and Textile Association of India (TAI) - Ahmedabad at Hotel Pride on 12th October 2006. Defining automation and then dealing with in context of Textile Sector Agarwal observes - "Automation is concerned with the application of machines to tasks once performed by humans or, increasingly, to tasks that would otherwise be impossible. Advancement in ring and rotor spinning has taken place by way of increase in speed, auto doffing and computerization by way of which idle spindle data is made available leading to better utilization of machinery. Linking ring spinning to winding is now catching on even in our country, although it has been very popular in other parts of the world." Agarwal has excellently dealt with the present status and future potential for application of automation for efficient, quality and cleaner textile production.

 

 

NEWPROJECTS

A Special Feature on upcoming a new projects in textile sector has been introduced. This section provide information about KAS Industries 15000 spindle spinning mill at Perundurai in Tamil Nadu, Nakoda Cotton Industries setting up a ginning and press mill at Anjar - Kutch in Gujarat, Suryajyoti Spinning Mills specialty bottom weight fabric weaving, dyeing and finishing plant in Italian Collaboration near Hyderabad and Sanvar Clothings Hosiery Garment facility at Avinashi in Coimbatore District (TN). Under this regular feature experts Dilip and Rushik Bhatt discussed the performance and prospects of Gokaldas Exports Limited (GEL). Commenting with the results as of 30th June 2006 they observed - "Currently GEL is eying on the capacity to manufacture about 2.5 million pieces a month, rise in employee strength from 43,500 to 47,000 and expansions at Chennai, Banglore, Hyderabad and Mysore by the year end. GEL is also busy setting up SEZ through another public limited company. Where GEL is started going to invest apron Rs. 250m to acquire 20 acres of land for plant which generates revenue of Rs. 1bnts - 1.2bn per year. As a part of new product mix GEL is also looking on industrial workwear, innerwear, sleepwear and garments. Though the Margins are not showing significant upward trend but they can turn out to be much higher because of the new ventures, full order book and expansion plans which promise to provide good results in second and third quarters in FY'07. At the current market pri ce the stock is trading at 11.8 times the PE ratio of first quarter of the current fiscal on which we maintain "HOLD" at Rs. 630 with support at Rs. 600 and Rs. 582. We rate this stock as "MARKET PERFORMER". Obviously the analysts don't have any wasted interest as they do not hold any position in the said stock.
