The article deals with the current status of the Indian Textile and Apparel Industry. The authors indicating the estimated size of the Indian Textile and Apparel Industry at US$ 46 billion analyse the present structure indicating that exports to the US and EU increased by 27% and 18% respectively. The domestic apparel markets reach US$ 20 billion size in 2005 which share of branded apparel reaching 24%. The Post quota trend of Indian Textile and Apparel Exports is stated to have registered an increase of 19% to reach US$ 16 billion. The Indian Exports to the US increasing 27% and EU by 18%. A detailed analysis presented by the authors on the current status and the future scenario of Indian Textile and Apparel Industry in this article.

Government Policies and Incentives For Growth of Textile Sector in India - An Overview

The schemes discussed include Technology Mission on Cotton (TMC), Technology Up gradation Funds Scheme (TUFS), Progress of TUFS as of 31st May 2006 indicating year wise project cost sanctioned under TUFS as follows. (Table Page 15), Credit Link Capital Subsidy, Debt Restructuring Scheme (DRS), Scheme for Integrated Parks (SITP), Rationalisation of fiscal duty structure, Power loom Schemes are discussed in details. The article also deals with deriservation of Textile Items, Impact of the policies / iniciatives and the future thrust areas for Government Textiles Policies. Coming from the apex authority like Textile Commissioner it hardly needs to be stressed that most authentic and up-to-date account of various incentive schemes for promoting Textile Industry in India are presented through this article.
